The Colonnades Shopping Centre Fresh Food Market development achieved Practical Completion as expected earlier this month.

APP was appointed as Project Manager, Superintendent and Tenancy Coordinator with onsite works commencing in June 2015.

Including an extension to the existing Woolworths, a new ALDI store, 16 additional speciality tenancies and an open, external public plaza space containing interactive play elements, the project has delivered on time, and to the client brief.

The result is an exciting new open market-style precinct, with finishes and a material palate comprised of timber, exposed brick, steelwork, glazing and tiling that reflects a natural stone finish.

In addition, the tenancy fitouts are unique to the precinct. There is a market-style aesthetic within their tenancy designs, contributing another layer of detail through their material selections and design integration within the overall development and to the overall theatrical ambience of the space.

Substantial road works were also required for the project including the construction of new intersections connecting the centre to the existing local and new internal road network, associated car parking, new landscaping features and external entrance statements.

The project team comprising Sarah Mullins, Jason Wong and Leah Bagnell-Clegg have thoroughly enjoyed delivering this project and are looking forward to seeing the local community enjoy the new Colonnades Shopping Centre.

APP Project Director Vivien Dossmann spoke at last night’s AIPM End of Year Networking event in Adelaide on the new Royal Adelaide Hospital Project (new RAH).

In what is SA’s biggest landmark building, the new RAH project spans further than the visible structure. The new hospital will integrate digital technology, modern models of care, and designs aimed at creating a healing environment.

Vivien’s presentation provided an overview of the main aspects of preparation and execution for the move into the new RAH, focusing on what it takes to transition staff, systems and operations from an existing working environment to a brand new one.

It was a great opportunity for the project management professionals to hear some of the behind-the-scenes details on what is altogether, a complex and fascinating project.

ALDI has achieved one of the critical milestones in their expansion into South Australia, with the opening of the new South Australian Head Office and Distribution Centre in Regency Park. This 33,000sqm warehouse will support the first store openings in February 2016 and will ultimately service around 50 stores across the state.

APP was appointed as Project Manager in 2013 to deliver this facility and our role has covered the entire development process from site finding and acquisition to managing the entire construction and operational fit-out.

We are proud to have helped ALDI achieve this milestone; our team were successful in handing over a fully operational facility on time, and within budget, whilst maintaining ALDI’s incredibly high-quality standards.

This significant achievement is a testament to our team in Adelaide, who have worked tirelessly doing what they do best.

The APP team in South Australia continues to grow from strength-to-strength welcoming two new members – Tony Mackay as Project Director, and Lilian Hyland as Project Manager.

Tony comes from a Defence Force background, gaining significant experience in logistics, safety and program management. He has held several senior management positions with the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency, initially as the Director of the Agency’s PMO and later as the Director of Governance and Innovation. Relocating to Adelaide from Melbourne earlier this year, Tony’s remarkable skillset is already a wonderful asset to the team.

Lilian has also relocated from Melbourne earlier this year, bringing a Masters in Construction Management off the back of a Bachelor of Environments. Prior to her move to Adelaide she was involved in a number of projects including data centres, childcare centres, commercial and fit-out works from feasibility and procurement through to delivery and is certainly building on this experience at APP.

It’s both a sign of the market in South Australia and the remarkable team APP has both locally and nationally that we’re continuing to grow across the board, and we’re pleased to welcome Tony and Lilian into the fold.

APP have recently completed, ahead of programme, the full repair and renovation of a 21,000m² fully operational industrial warehouse building, for Stockland at their Port Adelaide Distribution Centre in SA.

APP was appointed as Project Manager for the works that required intensive collaboration between the Contractor and occupiers to allow the repairs to be completed with minimal disruption to the tenants business. The building remained fully operational throughout the works.

The warehouse facility was in a degraded condition from prolonged exposure to stored fertiliser products. The high levels of corrosion required complete replacement of roof and wall cladding, shot-blasting and repainting of the structure and extensive repairs to floors, dado walls and services.

The repairs were successfully planned and construction works sequenced to allow the tenant to maintain their operational activities, at all times, through a staged decanting of their operations and provision of temporary works and protection.

In line to be one of Australia’s most technologically advanced hospitals, the $1.85B new Royal Adelaide Hospital (new RAH) is currently under construction on 10 hectares of Adelaide’s CBD.

This is a significant project for SA Health and the Government of South Australia which will see the new hospital providing 700 single inpatient bedrooms, employing approximately 6000 staff, and retaining some of the most advanced medical equipment in the world.

APP’s role involves the management of the medical equipment procurement by SA Health. We’ve been seconded to support the tracking and progress reporting of procurement managers, as some 10,000 items are sourced via approximately 70 packages and includes items as diverse as a hyperbaric chamber to mobility aids.

We are assisting in the development of procurement specific bespoke management, communication and reporting tools, critical on a project of this scale and complexity. This role also sees us supporting and contributing to the development and advancement of cross-workstream procedures.

It’s exciting to be involved in such a landmark project for South Australia’s health infrastructure, building on our recent success in the delivery of Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth and the Gold Coast University hospital.  We’re looking forward to seeing the boost it provides in health services for the local community and the development of what will become a world class health precinct along Adelaide’s North Terrace.

Federation Centres Colonnades Shopping Centre located in Noarlunga South Australia comprises over 200 speciality stores along with 5 major retailers. In fulfilling the requirements of a potential 6th major retailer, Federation Centres have embarked upon a project to expand and modify part of the centre. The project sees an amalgamation of 4 tenancies along with additions to the existing building to provide approximately 2,000m² of lettable space to Harris Scarfe.

APP has been engaged as Project Manager to provide complete project management services, including design, procurement and contract administration. In undertaking this role we have been responsible for preparation of the project programme and daily liaison with project sub-consultants including architects and engineers, to monitor delivery of the design documentation and statutory approvals. In addition we have managed the procurement and construction process on behalf of Federation Centres, including preparation of the Tender Package, subsequent interview of shortlisted tenderers, recommendation for engagement and contract administration during the construction process.

The project offers some unique challenges, including delivery of the construction within a compressed time frame and in accordance with the specific requirements of Harris Scarfe. APP has coordinated a rigorous review of the future fitout documentation and current tenant specifications to ensure all requirements are addressed.

Practical completion was successfully achieved 13 August 2014 as planned, and fit-out of the tenancy is now well underway by Harris Scarfe.
