We are proud to announce that APP has been appointed by AMP Capital to manage the new development upgrades to the Coronation Drive Office Park (CDOP) precinct, located in Brisbane’s riverside suburb of Milton.

The CDOP precinct, which is home to APP’s QLD office,  will soon welcome two significant attractions with the construction of an End of Trip Facility (EOTF) and external amenity upgrade, referred to as “The Link”.

The upgrades will transform the CDOP into an integrated and energised urban community, set to change the way staff commute and interact within the precinct.

The EOTF will be built above an existing car park and will provide state-of-the-art facilities including bike racks, showers and amenities, cafés and a bicycle maintenance centre, complementing the precinct’s close proximity to the Bicentennial Bikeway

AMP have commissioned Tasmanian artist Trick Walsh to undertake design of the ceiling artwork which will form the centre piece of the EOTF along with bespoke bike racks, all visible through a glass facade. The building’s lobby will also undergo a facelift.

The Link will provide a dynamic, vibrant outdoor space under the canopy of large fig trees and is designed to flow through the CDOP, transforming the experience of its occupants. This space will house a local coffee shop known as“The Bunker”, a table tennis facility, and a restroom.  The Link will also incorporate a number of different seating options offering wifi access, powerpoints and USB charging ports, providing tenants with the option for outdoor meetings.

Surrounding The Link are architectural wonders and displays of art with wellness promoted and supported. At night the space will transform with a web of lights hanging overhead, and afterhours activation will occur during sporting events at the nearby Suncorp Stadium.

Construction has commenced and APP is already gearing up to ensure the design of these facilities encapsulate award winning concepts to transform the CDOP into a vibrant and integrated business hub.

This project is particularly exciting for APP’s QLD office, as the changes are set to significantly improve the way our staff commute and interact within the precinct and balance work with an active lifestyle.

Construction is expected to be completed on both facilities by June 2017.

APP Corporation Pty Ltd (APP) is providing Development Advisory Services to Freight Terminals Pty Ltd (Freight Terminals) for their InterLinkSQ Development.

InterLinkSQ is a $200M+ Industrial Park Development located within the Toowoomba Enterprise Hub just west of Toowoomba. The development is unique in that it has rail frontage to both the existing Western Rail Line and the preferred Inland Rail Alignment and will include a large Intermodal Terminal to take advantage of this. The development will also have a direct connection from the Warrego Highway to the new Second Range Crossing connecting it to the Port of Brisbane.

APP has completed a number of Pre-Feasibility Models for InterLinkSQ for different types of facilities that could be located at the development including detailed transport modelling for such. These models were able to assist InterLinkSQ in understanding their position in the market against competitors around South East QLD, allowing them to tailor their offering and target buyers and types of organisations that could benefit from or are likely to be interested in locating themselves at the development.

APP is now also working with InterLinkSQ on developing and implementing a targeted marketing strategy focusing on a number of organisations who have been identified as high priority, and a high likelihood to be interested in, and/or gain significant advantages by locating themselves at the development.

Blair Batts, General Manager – Commercial & Development at InterLinkSQ said; “Gordon’s knowledge and expertise in Industrial Projects and Developments and his understanding of the drivers behind such developments has delivered us with some significant benefits and opportunities”.

APP recently hosted a group of Chinese Delegates from the Shandong Province to Brisbane looking to invest in projects, infrastructure and opportunities we have in Queensland and around the Country. The delegates were able to hear from a number of industry experts from APP, Brisbane Marketing and BlueMount Capital on the opportunities available to them.

Paul Spinolo, APP National General Manager of Clients and Markets was positive about the growth in Queensland. “We are seeing a number of large scale projects ready to take off in Queensland and the local government is looking for investment from foreign entities. The opportunity lies in the relationships that can be built between the investors and government to see these projects come to fruition.”

The inland rail from Melbourne to Brisbane will have a huge impact on the movement of freight within Australia and hubs like Toowoomba will then become major centres for international freight forwarding stimulating foreign investment and growth in the region.

The delegates represented a number of industries looking to invest in Australia including heavy industry, textiles, packaging, technology, materials and property investment.

APP was engaged to assist with a design competition for the redevelopment and refurbishment of Sunnybank Plaza for YFG and Retail First. The design competition saw five architectural firms' designs shortlisted, with three finalists presenting their designs to the panel.

The designs were interesting, unique and captured the essence of the brief and the vision the owners had for the centre.

APP has been involved in previous design competitions for the City of Casey Cultural Precinct in Narre Warren, VIC (now known as Bunjil Place), Star City Casino and Hotel in Sydney and “Space” 1 Bligh Street, also in Sydney.

Nick Davy chaired the design competition and was pleased with the process and integrity of the competition. “The centre has such a unique character. It was important that the winning design captured that character and provided visitors with the Sunnybank experience that is so unique to the area – there really isn’t another shopping centre like it.”

More details of the winning design will be released by YFG and Retail First, however we’re sure you’ll be intrigued with what’s to come at Sunnybank Plaza.

APP is participating in the NAIDOC celebrations with our staff in Queensland attending a one-day Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Immersion Learning workshop at the Oodgeroo Unit at Kelvin Grove QUT. Indigenous Leader Benny Hodges will guide our staff through an interactive workshop focusing on key issues and stereotypes commonly experienced within the workplace. Benny Hodges’s presentation will guide APP through various cultural perspectives and personal experiences through his eyes, from the past through to the present.

Earlier this year, APP sponsored an award for outstanding academic achievement for Indigenous Students in the engineering and built environment faculties, providing the successful applicant an opportunity to partner with APP in an internship. The awards were facilitated by one of our own indigenous employees, Clay Kudla, who is a proud descendant of the Jukun people of the Kimberley in Western Australia. The Northern Territory Government has this week announced plans to trial a redevelopment project with Defence Housing Australia (DHA) that looks to redevelop old housing stock to create a mix of Defence and public housing, thereby replacing ageing houses with new dwellings.

The move comes off the back of APP-led advice that considered a number of NT Housing sites in the northern suburbs of Darwin.

Our analysis considered several clusters of NT Housing sites, plus other NT Housing sites that could form larger amalgamated parcels. We considered the integration of nearby and abutting privately held properties so that a range of development options could be considered – from First Preference NT Housing Core Sites, to other framing sites which could be added if required. Our analysis also considered the possible combinations of dwelling types and tenures across duplexes, townhouses and apartments.

The resulting initiative is a significant example of new ways of thinking about housing provision for key workers (members of the Defence Forces and their families) and social housing tenants in the Top End. Click here to view the press release.

APP will again be prominent at the QLD Department of State Development Planning and Infrastructure’s (DSDIP) Annual Planning Forum on 13 March 2014.

Mark Doonar, Project Director, Urban Development, was the master of ceremonies and moderator for the inaugural Forum in 2013, and has been asked to perform the role again at this year’s Forum.

The Forum has a high profile within the Government, with Deputy Premier and DSDIP Minister Jeff Seeney, and the Assistant Minister for Planning Reform Rob Molhoek likely to be attending.

The 2014 Forum will bring together over 100 of the Queensland’s key stakeholders in planning reform, and this year’s event will canvas a series of major reform initiatives under the Queensland Government’s Planning Reform Program.

These include the next phases of the State’s Single State Planning Policy and the State Assessment Referral Agency (SARA), Infrastructure Charges reforms, and work on the Proposed Planning for Queensland's Development Act. The new Act will be the main topic of discussions, with DSDIP keen to hear from the various sectoral interests on how best to dramatically reduce the 750 page document (the current Sustainable Planning Act) to a concise 250 pages – a dramatic reform.

To find out more about the outcome of the forum please see the media release here.
