    Brisbane Airport has experienced dynamic growth in aircraft and passenger movements over the past decade. With increases in this vital sector's forecast, there is a need for additional facilities to cater for the increased demand. The provision of additional infrastructure and the expansion of the terminal is expected to cater for passenger and airline movements through to 2018 and beyond. The pressure on existing Fire Services Systems increases annually. The proposed expansion of the Domestic Terminal Building to meet future domestic passenger demands requires an upgrade of installed fire safety systems. APP has provided a Senior Project Manager to BAC as part of the team managing this upgrade, which includes:

    • Replacement of dry fire system, including Fire Indicator Panels, smoke detection, Early Warning Intercom System and Public Announcement;
    • Investigation into the timing of replacement of sprinkler pipework that is approaching the end of its useful life; and
    • Investigation into the timing of replacement of ceiling and lighting.

    The construction project is to be delivered by a Managing Contractor under a 2-stage Design & Construct Contract, with target completion late 2017.

    The APP team in South Australia continues to grow from strength-to-strength welcoming two new members – Tony Mackay as Project Director, and Lilian Hyland as Project Manager.

    Tony comes from a Defence Force background, gaining significant experience in logistics, safety and program management. He has held several senior management positions with the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency, initially as the Director of the Agency’s PMO and later as the Director of Governance and Innovation. Relocating to Adelaide from Melbourne earlier this year, Tony’s remarkable skillset is already a wonderful asset to the team.

    Lilian has also relocated from Melbourne earlier this year, bringing a Masters in Construction Management off the back of a Bachelor of Environments. Prior to her move to Adelaide she was involved in a number of projects including data centres, childcare centres, commercial and fit-out works from feasibility and procurement through to delivery and is certainly building on this experience at APP.

    It’s both a sign of the market in South Australia and the remarkable team APP has both locally and nationally that we’re continuing to grow across the board, and we’re pleased to welcome Tony and Lilian into the fold.

    While APP has grown our business by forging long-standing relationships across all sectors in the property sphere, one partnership in particular generates a genuine sense of pride and satisfaction for everyone in the organisation.  Since 1997 APP has supported Redkite to provide financial assistance to families dealing with childhood and young adult cancer.  We donate time and volunteers to produce Redkite’s Corporate Quiz, which is held in Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.  From simple beginnings as a trivia night in a pub, this event with APP’s help has become Redkite’s signature fundraising event.   Along the way over $9M has been raised, enabling Redkite to reach families throughout Australia in need of financial and essential support.

    The APP team in Sydney is currently gearing up for the NSW event, to be held at Sydney’s Town Hall on 23 October.  Over 550 of Sydney’s brightest corporates will compete in 3 rounds of trivia, and together with live and silent auctions we are aiming to raise $300,000.

    On 29 May 2015 the Tamworth Health Service Redevelopment project achieved a major milestone with the handover of the Tamworth Acute Services Building to Hunter New England Local Health District. This was a major milestone for Hunter New England Health and for Health Infrastructure and constitutes a major piece of social infrastructure being delivered for the community of New England.

    This important deliverable involved the construction of a new multi-level hospital building that provides a hub for clinical service priorities in medical; surgical; paediatrics; maternity, and birthing; special care nursery; palliative care; emergency services; operating suites and recovery spaces; cardiac catheterisation laboratory; medical imaging; nuclear medicine and pharmacy.  The facility also provides consultancy outreach and support for chronic and complex disease management across the whole community.

    APP has been involved in this project since September 2012 as the Delivery Project Manager. The project was delivered on time, and on budget whilst managing to deliver a new hospital in a live environment, with minimal disruption to patients and services. As the Delivery Project Manager APP’s services have included management of the design, town planning, construction and the operational commissioning.

    The next stage of the redevelopment is now underway which includes:

    • Refurbishment of the Bruderlin Building to accommodate ambulatory care (outpatient) clinics, and Medical 2 and Surgical 2 Orthopaedic wards;
    • Refurbishment and expansion of existing buildings to create a new Oral Health service;
    • Minor refurbishment of the historic 1883 Building in keeping with heritage requirements;
    • Conversion of the former wards into office space; and
    • Additional car parking.

    The new Ambulatory Care Centre is an exciting innovation that will allow better coordination of outpatient care. Currently outpatient clinics are located at a number of sites across the hospital campus, which means that patients who attend multiple clinics may have to move from one location to another to receive their care. The new Ambulatory Care Centre will combine the majority of outpatient clinics in the one location, including the renal unit, fracture clinic, diabetes service, paediatric clinic and obstetrics and gynaecology clinics.

    This stage of the redevelopment is expected to be complete in mid-2016.

    Funding for the redevelopment was secured in May 2011, with the Commonwealth’s Health and Hospitals Fund (HFF) and the NSW Government jointly funding, with respective contributions of $120 million and $91 million.

    APP is involved in a number of major retail projects around the country that have recently achieved major project milestones.

    Pacific Werribee Shopping Centre

    The latest major stage of Pacific Werribee's landmark $370M development has now opened for trade. This stage includes the western end of the mall that will integrate the new Target and Myer stores into the existing centre. This stage, in conjunction with the previously opened Urban Diner precinct, now represents approximately the half-way mark in the development.

    This most recent milestone includes a new flagship Target store, built to Target’s new design standard, as well as 40 new specialty retail stores, and new multi-deck car parking.

    APP has been involved in the Pacific Werribee Development since 2013, initially providing project management, design management and superintendency services through the design and contractor procurement phases, as well as managing an early works package consisting of the relocation of the Pacific Werribee public transport hub. We’re currently providing project management, superintendency, and tenancy coordination services to the Pacific Group of Companies for the main works package due for completion in early 2017.

    Highpoint Shopping Centre

    World class retail destination Highpoint Shopping Centre, owned by Highpoint Property Group, GPT Wholesale Shopping Centre Fund and The GPT Group, continues its impressive redevelopment with the opening of a new casual dining and urban entertainment precinct on Level One.

    The investment has created a purpose-built slow eating space with a carefully selected and diverse mix of authentic Asian restaurants. The new precinct also welcomes Strike, which sees Highpoint deliver a unique entertainment offering to Melbourne’s West.

    The redevelopment saw the construction of a sweeping retractable staircase. Designed as a communal meeting point that bridges the area between the new and current precincts, the staircase can be withdrawn to accommodate the retail destination’s ongoing calendar of events and performances. APP has been providing both Project Management and Tenancy Coordination Services to GPT on this project.

    Lidcombe Shopping Centre

    Stage 1 of the refurbished Lidcombe Shopping Centre recently opened to the public. This first stage consisted of 34 tenancies including Kmart, Woolworths, ALDI, and a number of specialty food & beverage and convenience retailers. Spotlight and Anaconda who were both existing tenants continued to trade through the major refurbishment works.

    APP has been providing tenancy coordination services on this project to our client Vicinity Shopping Centres.

    Being a truly national organisation, APP was able to resource this project from a combination of our Victorian, New South Wales, and Western Australian offices. This allowed us to form a team with the optimal mix of experience for this project.
