Burradoo Aged Care

Project details:

Drawing on APP’s previous experience in managing the planning and delivery of aged care facilities for HarbisonCare over several years, APP was engaged in early 2012 to manage a design competition to engage an Architect and provide project management for a new 67-bed Residential Aged Care facility in Burradoo, together with a refurbishment of the existing nursing home.

APP elected to use a design, develop and construct delivery  model, which proved to be very successful.

The original design was modified in the delivery phase to suit the changing requirements of HarbisonCare from a 67-bed facility to a 92-bed facility, all within the existing floor plate.  APP successfully negotiated these changes with Council to secure an enhanced and substantially enlarged facility which optimises resident care.

As the works were undertaken on a site constrained by adjoining buildings and associated infrastructure, APP ensured that the construction programme addressed the sensitivities associated with the Aged Care residents, with emphasis on maintaining full operations and services to residents at all times.

Stage 1 of the new 78-bed facility was opened by the NSW Governor General in May 2014.  Stage 2, comprising a further 14 beds and refurbishment of the former nursing home, will be completed by March 2015.
