Clinical Services Building, Royal North Shore Hospital

  • Royal North Shore Hospital - Clinical Services

Project details:

The major redevelopment of the Royal North Shore Hospital continues on many fronts. The next component of the project to be completed on the St Leonards precinct is the new Clinical Services Building.  APP was engaged by Health Infrastructure to manage the design and delivery of this $144M facility as part of the greater Hospital’s redevelopment.  To deliver the CSB, APP has drawn on our 20 year track record for managing complex, live environment health projects across Australia.  With the public focus squarely on Royal North Shore Hospital as a major provider of of health facilities to Sydney’s lower North Shore and a clinical leader for the state, it was important that the project was successfully delivered in accordance with the complex array of requirements for a modern clinical facility.

The new building will house approximately 25,000m2 of clinical services including Mental Health, Severe Burns, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Paediatrics, Maternity, general in-patient accommodation, Women’s and Children Ambulatory Care as well as two dedicated Operating Theatres and associated support areas.  The building’s design features access links at multiple levels (including a service tunnel) to the adjacent Acute Services Building for patients, staff, the public and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV’s).

As with all large metropolitan public hospitals, one of the most significant challenges faced by the APP team was the liaison and management of a vast array of stakeholders – each having complex and often competing requirements for the facility.  APP excels in this environment and successfully managed the requirements of all parties including Health Infrastructure, clinicians, nursing staff, technical, administration and support staff, external authorities as well as the interface with the new Acute Services Building directly next door.

The facility is being delivered on time in preparation for the opening in mid December 2014.
