APP manages Development Approvals for The Star expansion

In 2008, APP was appointed to manage a expansion of Sydney’s The Star into a world-class destination, complete with a new 5 star hotel, more restaurants and bars, and improved entertainment and gaming facilities.

The expansion saw the casino and restaurants re-oriented to face the harbour and city skyline, and a grand new casino entry added. The development includes a 5,500m2 luxury retail precinct, and fine dining by internationally recognised chefs.

Such a complex redevelopment required a wide range of interdisciplinary skills and APP’s Planning team, with its core competencies in statutory and strategic planning, managed the myriad development approvals for the project.

There were a large number of planning applications requiring a coordinated and timely approach. We provided succinct advice to the client on how to navigate the NSW planning legislation, then analysed the risk and program management associated with the approval process.

APP also managed a number of development applications, including the management of the relevant consultant team, and negotiated the approvals with the Department of Planning and relevant agencies.

Throughout the project, APP worked collaboratively with the client, consultants and authorities, and development approvals were delivered efficiently and within short timeframes.
