Gold Coast Rapid Transit

Project details:

APP provides independent verification for Gold Coast Rapid Transit system

APP and Hyder have combined forces to deliver the Independent Verifier and Independent Certifier roles for the Gold Coast Rapid Transit Project.

The Gold Coast is one of the fastest growing regions and the sixth largest city in Australia, with a current population approaching 600,000, projected to exceed 800,000 by 2026.  Additionally, the region has on average 55,000 overnight visitors.

The use of public transport is currently the lowest of any major Australian city, resulting in heavy traffic congestion.  The State Government, together with the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) and the Commonwealth,  committed to delivering Stage One of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit Project.

Stage One will provide a world class, $1bn light rail system that will integrate with the existing public transport network.  It links the newly-constructed Gold Coast University Hospital in Southport to Pacific Fair in Broadbeach, via Surfers Paradise.

The APP-Hyder Joint Venture was required to certify the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the 13km light rail system.  In addition, and for the first time for an Independent Verifier role, the joint venture was also required to verify the Communications and Stakeholder management of the project works by the contractor and the Operator Franchisee.
