Project details:

APP success in satisfying 2500 world media at APEC 2007

As part of the APEC Summit in 2007, APP was appointed to deliver the International Media Centre at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, at Darling Harbour. APP was responsible for the design, construction and operation of the Centre.

As a base camp for the world’s media during APEC, the Centre was a central focus, with daily interviews and major announcements from world leaders taking place at the venue.

APP’s extensive experience with large-scale public events provided the Government with immediate benefit from the commencement of the project, and resulted in the facility being highly commended for its quality and functionality.

“This engagement was very close to the required starting date of the event,” says Terry Fahey of the APEC 2007 Taskforce. “APP displayed great skill.”

APP provided temporary installation of full broadcast facilities for all the world media stations, including CNN, NBC, BBC, SingCast, RTV and others, including all communication links, satellite links, power, temporary studios, offices, catering and security.

APP has in-depth knowledge of both the venue and this highly specialised type of event, and this combination meant that the final cost was 15% below the $18m budget allocated by the Government.

“As you were aware this engagement was very close to the required starting date of the event. [APP] displayed great skills in bringing together the Taskforce staff, various stakeholders and suppliers to ensure that the SCEC facilities were operational by the required date. [Their] commitment to the project and organisational capabilities during the bump-in and bump-out times ensured that the Taskforce met its contractual obligations with the SCEC venue.”
