Tell us about yourself – what are you qualifications and where did you study?

I have a Bachelor of Environmental Design and a Bachelor of Architecture, both gained from The University of Canberra.

Tell us about your career with APP

I had first heard of APP during the 2000 Olympics.  I was doing some minor work at one of the venues with another PM firm and kept seeing the APP banners everywhere.  After making a few enquiries (in the days before Google) I found out that they were working on all the projects I wanted to be involved in – the high rises in the city, big fit outs, the casino, huge urban developments, sports stadiums.

APP was my first job working in a large firm.  My first project was the Brain and Mind Research Institute, which comprised the refurbishment of a number of existing buildings, including a former petrol station with a heritage listed façade covered in a thick layer of pigeon crap!  Together with the architects, we were able to turn these challenging site constraints into an incredible building that in 2010 was voted the World’s Best Health Building at the International Architecture awards.

In September 2008, APP was appointed as the Project Manager for the $446m redevelopment of the Cairns Base Hospital and I was l given the fantastic opportunity to relocate and manage this major project.  Combine this with year-round balmy weather, white sand beaches, ocean reefs and local rainforests - what's not to like! More recently I've returned to Sydney to manage another significant health project on Sydney's lower north shore, which has helped me to grow my experience even further in this sector.

How has APP helped to grow your career?

My time at APP has provided me with an incredible path that has led me to where I am now.  From exciting projects, to running a branch and working on a multi-million Hospital in far north Queensland, and now back to my Sydney roots working on a diversity of projects, it has been a great career journey.  We continue to expand our services and capacity at APP and with that comes opportunities and possibilities that could take you anywhere.

Describe the culture/environment at APP
