Project details:

Consortium appoints APP as Independent Certifier for WA water treatment plant

APP, in a joint venture with Hyder, has been appointed by Helena WaTer Consortium to the critical role of Independent Certifier and INdependent Reviewer for the $200m Mundaring Treatment plant in Western Australia.

The project marks the first Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the Western Australian water industry.

The Consortium – which comprises ACCIONA Agua, United Utilities Australia, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Brookfield Multiplex Engineering and Infrastructure – will finance, design, construct and operate the new Mundaring Water Treatment Plant, located near Mundaring Weir, around 30km east of Perth.

The plant will have an initial capacity of 165 million litres per day, and a maximum capacity of around 240 million litres per day, and will provide a long-term, safe and secure supply of water into Western Australia’s wheat belt and Goldfields regions.

The project provides for a deluge system to protect the assets during bushfire events and features a flexible process to treat the various water sources at the lowest risk and cost. On completion in mid-2013, the plant will meet the stringent requirements for treated water quality.
