NeW Space Campus UoN

Project details:

The University of Newcastle appointed APP as the Project Manager for their NeW Space project in September 2013. This project, located on the corner of Auckland and Hunter streets in the Newcastle CBD, will be an educational precinct designed and developed to be a world-leading educational experience. The project will include the building of new facilities and a partial refurbishment of the existing University House.

One of our first tasks as Project Manager on the NeW Space campus was to support a design competition on behalf of the University to bring world’s best practice in architectural design to the Hunter.   With design now underway, the facility is expected to be completed in time for the commencement of the 2017 academic year.

The NeW Space campus comprises a new 10-storey ‘vertical’ campus that will house a library and information common, collaborative learning spaces and zones for professional and community engagement, as well as the refurbishment of approximately 1,400m2 in the existing and adjacent University House.  The campus has been designed to join the community with the campus through social spaces, connecting pathways and active student learning spaces located right on the street front.

The NeW Space project is jointly funded as an initiative of the Australian Government being conducted as a project of the Education Investment Fund, the New South Wales State Government through the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund, and the University of Newcastle.
