Parramatta Park Capital Works
Parramatta Park is one of Australia’s most important cultural heritage landscapes and is inscribed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The Park plays a pivotal role in the NSW's Government investment for transforming Parramatta into a second CBD for Sydney, whilst protecting the ever-increasing scarcity of public green space in the region. An ambitious Capital Works program for the Park has been undertaken as a strategic component of this Western Sydney transformation, with APP engaged to manage the delivery of a number of projects ranging from infrastructure upgrades for event spaces, new recreational facilities to conservation and adaptive reuse of heritage buildings.
Working in a live environment, which averages over 4,500 visitors daily, meant that works needed to be staged to minimise any disruption to Park users. The Park's World Heritage listing and significant Aboriginal heritage value also presented significant challenges, in terms of securing approvals for construction works that met the extremely tight delivery program and satisfied Treasury funding requirements.
APP have provided effective stakeholder and community consultations, rigorous design management and facilitated strategic meetings with the Office of Environment and Heritage to reduce risks in obtaining approvals and ensured timely delivery of projects.
Suellen Fitzgerald, Director of Western Sydney Parklands & Parramatta Park Trusts is appreciative of how APP has integrated into the project team for Parramatta Park: "It's a good relationship with a lot of trust between ourselves and APP".
