Tonkin Gap Project

Tonkin Gap Project

Certifying major construction works for a critical freight network in Perth.

The Tonkin Gap Project and Associated Works is a federal and state-funded project designed to alleviate pressure on the existing network and improve safety, efficiency and travel times. The project addresses the major bottleneck on the Tonkin Highway between Dunreath Drive and Collier Road.

The APP Group formed part of the Tonkin Gap Alliance (TGA) to provide Independent Certification services for the project. The Alliance brings together Main Roads Western Australia, Public Transport Authority, BMD, Georgiou, WA Limestone, GHD, BG&E and The APP Group. TGA is currently working towards an ‘As Built’ rating submission, with construction of the Tonkin Gap project scheduled for completion in 2024.

The project includes adding lanes in both directions between Collier Road and Dunreath Drive, and building new bridges over Swan River, Guilford Road, Railway Parade and Dunstone Road. Guildford Road and the Great Eastern Highway Interchanges will also receive an upgrade. The Associated Works provides rail-enabling works for the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line along Tonkin Highway, including dive structures, to enable trains to enter and travel along the median of Tonkin Highway then exit in Malaga, road and bus bridges at Broun Avenue, Benara Road underpass, Morley Station and Noranda Station car parks and platform structures.
