    The Strand Shopping Centre Redevelopment

Project details:

APP was appointed by ISPT in July 2011 to assist with the preparation of a concept design and a feasibility study for The Strand Shopping Centre located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD.

The key objectives for the redevelopment of the existing Shopping Centre was to provide a modern interior with high quality of finishes, improve the ceiling heights, encourage the use of the centre as a link to Elizabeth Street and Little Bourke Street, improve the connection to Melbourne’s GPO retail centre (also owned by ISPT), maximise the key location of the centre with a striking two level façade, and improve the overall customer profile.

This progressed into full design and documentation of the redevelopment following approval of the feasibility study. APP project managed the appointment of the consultant team and the full design process.

Construction works commenced in July 2013. This involved staging of the works to allow Australia Post to continue to trade throughout the redevelopment and to minimise disruption to surrounding tenants. The Strand reopened for trade in April 2014.

Key elements of The Strand now include a striking two storey high, glass fin feature façade, a sophisticated interior design, and activation of Driver Lane to capitalise on Melbourne’s laneway culture.
