University of Sydney Capital Works

  • The University of Sydney Capital Works

Project details:

APP’s relationship with the University of Sydney began in 2006 when APP was appointed to deliver the new Brain and Mind Institute on the Mallet Street campus.  We were subsequently engaged to provide project management assistance to the University’s Campus Infrastructure Services (CIS) for the delivery of their high priority capital works projects, ranging from small office renovations, re-planning and upgrading teaching and student areas, plus large and small research and teaching laboratory refurbishments.

Today APP continues to provide an array of services to CIS on a Panel arrangement, where the projects vary in scope, complexity, budget and timing.  Operating in a live environment with tens of thousands of students and surrounded by heritage-listed architecture also brings inherent challenges for the project teams.  How to upgrade fire services and lifts, remediate rising damp in century old buildings and relocate staff into new facilities without disturbing lectures and campus operations?  The answer is to work closely with all stakeholders and agree a programme to minimise any disruption to classes and student activities.

APP is also assisting the University in the planning and scoping of many of their capital works projects, ranging from $250,000 to $5.0M.  These may range from defining and prioritising projects which require repair works to heritage facades, to scoping the most efficient solution to move, house and realign various Departments as part of a five-year Plan for expanding the University campus.  Then there are the “Operational Readiness” projects which prepare the teams, the campus, buildings and laboratories for imminent occupation.

Additionally APP is working for CIS in conjunction with Sydney Uni Sport and Fitness to deliver a new 1,100 seat Grandstand on Oval 2.

APP is also part of the project team managing the delivery of the new Business School and Student Accommodation located within the University’s Abercrombie Precinct.

CIS has chosen to work with providers whom they believe are setting the benchmark in service, experience and expertise.  Click on the testimonial below to hear more.
