Powering the look, feel and facilities for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne
With proven expertise in delivering facilities for the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Goodwill Games, Beef 2003 and Sydney Marathon, planners for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne turned to The APP Group for support.
The APP Group and JV partner KBR were appointed as project managers for the procurement and delivery of all overlay works at competition and non-competition venues for the Games. With strict deadlines, access coordination, 70 overlay work packages and many stakeholder groups to manage, The APP Group had many challenges to overcome.
Temporary facilities installed included telecommunications infrastructure, power, lighting, fencing, broadcast facilities, seating, portable courts, branded Games flags, banners and signage and traffic management planning for the Marathon, Triathlon and Road Cycling events. At non-competition events, complementary overlay was also required at the live sites, cultural performance spaces, sponsor marquees and Games-related vendors.
“On behalf of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation, thank you for your tremendous support for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
The Games have been declared as ‘simply the best’ Commonwealth Games ever.
This great result was truly a team effort, one in which we can all take great pride and which could not have been delivered without your efforts and those of your team.
Can you please pass on our sincere thanks to everyone involved in your team, not only for their dedication and hard work that went on behind the scenes, but also for striving to do a ‘personal best’ in everything they did.
A ‘Celebration of Sport and Culture’ an ideal embodied in the Melbourne 2006 brand – with your help we have made this a reality.”
