Armadale to North Lake Road Bridge

Easing traffic congestion in Perth through best-practice advice and certification of works.

The Armadale to North Lake Road Bridge Project was funded by the Australian and Western Australian governments to ease traffic congestion in Perth’s southern suburbs. The focus of the project at Cockburn Central was to deliver a new bridge over the Kwinana Freeway connecting Armadale Road with North Lake Road.

The APP Group was appointed as an Independent Certifier to ensure the construction of the works was carried out as agreed in the contracts. This involved site surveillance, inspections, reviews and audits of all products and processes that played a role in the final quality of construction.

Early into the project, The APP Group offered its knowledge of best-practice in delivering quality from past infrastructure projects and advice on specification enhancements to better construction processes. A strong shared sense of collaboration was maintained throughout hold point inspections, provision of technical input, risk workshops, NCR review and closeout, and defect verification.

Around 55,000 vehicles were using the existing Armadale Road to Beeliar Drive bridge. The new North Lake Road bridge would improve access to the freeway and train station car park. The project also included an upgrade to the Tapper Road intersection, a trench structure under the Solomon Road intersection and local road connections.

The client, Armadale Access Alliance, is a consortium of Laing O’Rourke and BG&E, in partnership with Main Roads Western Australia. The project also involved the handover of several areas to the City of Cockburn and the Public Transport Authority.
