MIT takes on the Vegemite challenge

Late last year, APP’s Queensland Regional General Manager, Ross Elliott, was invited by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston to assist with the judging of student work on polycentric development in Australia.

Ross was the only industry professional on the judging panel which included Professors from MIT, Harvard and University of Oregon. To bring some of Australia over to the states, Ross took a few gifts to share with his hosts.

“The MIT Professors kept the Bundy Rum and the Tim Tams for themselves but baulked at the Vegemite,” he said. “So, they suggested I put their students to the vegemite challenge after the judging, to see which of them could manage it. I doubt that Vegemite jar has seen much interest since.”

The MIT work is in association with the University of the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay Regional Council. Ross also took the opportunity to meet with Urban Land Institute Senior Fellow Ed McMahon in Washington DC.
