Delivering an award-winning workplace within Sydney's lively Barangaroo precinct.
Along with its Barangaroo location, Westpac's second head office at 275 Kent Street forms Westpac Group's CBD hub. Following the completion of the award-winning Barangaroo workplace in 2017, Westpac made plans to revitalise and upgrade the building at 275 Kent Street to provide a contemporary upgrade.
Westpac's vision for the 275 Kent Street upgrade project was to create a nimble and agile workspace that reinforces its position as one of the world's greatest service companies. The project presented Westpac with new opportunities to leverage design, engineering, technology, operations, sustainability, and accessibility to achieve its vision.
The APP Group was engaged by Westpac as Project Manager and Superintendent for the 275 Kent Street project. The role included managing Westpac's interests in finalising the Agreement for Lease with joint building owners Mirvac and Blackstone. The project team also managed the design and delivery processes, ensuring that the concept met Westpac's aspirations.
The 58,000sqm fit-out delivered:
- A mix of collaboration and meeting spaces (e.g. huddles, co-labs, studios and meeting rooms)
- Library areas on each floor providing ergonomic quiet zones to the occupants
- A launchpad hub surrounded by co-labs as spokes to promote innovation
- Large kitchen and breakout spaces on each floor
- Two dedicated reflection rooms for prayer, meditation and quiet contemplation
- A parents' room for parents returning to work and visitors
- A workplace concierge services to provide employees with access to services such as dry cleaning
- Spaces to promote wellness, including a dedicated Wellness Centre with multipurpose spaces for yoga, pilates and physiotherapy sessions
- A high-rise outdoor terrace that provides an alternative area to work, meet and socialise in a green outdoor environment
The project incorporated multiple initiatives for sustainability, accessibility, technology and adaptability. These initiatives included indigenous artworks commissioned to provide economic and development benefits to communities and artists, a project to rehouse, recycle and reuse over 10,000 items of furniture by donating to charities and public schools, and the replacement of lighting to LED to achieve greater energy efficiency.
