Upgrading Busselton’s airport for interstate flights to the South West of Australia.
The city of Busselton in the South West region of Western Australia is located in a booming region for tourism and business. Close to the famous Margaret River and Geographe wine regions, Busselton is a key aviation destination for tourists wanting to explore these and other attractions like the Busselton Jetty, Cape to Cape Track and Boranup Forest. In 2016, joint state and federal government funding was announced for the airport to be upgraded to allow for interstate travellers.
Based on its excellent track record with Perth Airport, The APP Group was appointed to project manage the planning, design and delivery of the airport upgrade. The project included an increased runway capacity and associated airside infrastructure, a new terminal building and landside works. It would take Busselton Margaret River Airport from a Code 3C aerodrome, to a Code 4C aerodrome, and allow for flights from Sydney and Melbourne as well as improve freight connections in the region.
