C A Brown Lodge Residential Aged Care Facility Redevelopment
Providing strategic advice and project management to deliver Anglican Care's flagship facility in the Hunter region.
Anglican Care is a not-for-profit aged care, retirement, and assisted living provider, with facilities throughout the Lake Macquarie, Hunter, Central Coast and Mid-Coast regions of NSW. The APP Group has had a strong relationship with Anglican Care as their project management partner, providing strategic and specialised advice for the development of their long-term property development plan (PDP) and portfolio. The PDP review identified that the CA Brown Lodge residential aged care facility no longer met resident standards and market expectations. The location at Booragul, on Lake Macquarie, is ideal, so the review focused on improving the facilities.
Our team worked with Anglican Care and a team of project consultants to develop seven different refurbishment options for these facilities. We developed and documented a significant refurbishment and upgrade of the co-located facilities and obtained Development Approval from Council.
In late 2016, we prepared a business case to support the option of a new building to replace the CA Brown Lodge RACF. The key objectives were to create contemporary accommodation to meet Anglican Care's expectations and the high-care needs of residents, facilities that promote efficient and effective delivery of care, and to have a financially viable and sustainable facility. While refurbishment options were explored, it was clear that the new-build option offered significantly less risk, better operational efficiency, improved campus amenities and met Anglican Care’s broad PDP objectives.
The facility has 126 single ensuite rooms, 18 of which provide support for patients with dementia. Other amenities include a purpose-built day therapy centre, a café, several multi-purpose spaces, and a chapel. The redeveloped facility provides a new entry to the residential village and improved landscaping for the existing campus.
In March 2020, the renamed CA Brown RACF project reached completion. The APP Group delivered a high-quality project, which came in significantly under budget and program. The facility has met the client’s user requirements and exceeded the expectations of residents.
