Optimising underutilised urban open spaces in Western Sydney.
Through a community initiative called the Open Space Reinvestment Project aiming to rejuvenate underutilised public open space reserves, Penrith City Council identified six surplus land assets that could be rezoned, reclassified and sold. The sales revenue of the assets would then be reinvested into the Erskine Park open space network and public domain areas.
Penrith City Council engaged The APP Group to provide Strategic Advisory and Project Management for this project. Our team delivered a business case, revenue analysis, financial feasibility and technical constraints investigation to identify preferred development solutions. Additionally, based on research for local demand, we recommended one site to be an affordable housing demonstration project. This provided Penrith City Council the opportunity to raise the bar and inspire environmentally and economically sustainable development in the area.
The project will inject approximately $5 million into Erskine Park and contribute to creating a modern and vibrant community.
