Inner Harbour Ferries

Growing Sydney’s Ferry fleet and routes.

An increase in the regular number of passengers catching Sydney Ferries led to an expansion of the fleet and the introduction of new services in Sydney’s Inner Harbour. As part of Sydney’s Ferry Future plan, Transport for NSW commissioned six new Inner Harbour ferries, new wharves and a new east-west route between Watson’s Bay and Cockatoo Island, that would also stop at the new Barangaroo Ferry Wharf.

The six new vessels began operating in 2017 and were named after famous Australians through a public competition to choose the names; Catherine Hamlin, Fred Hollows, Victor Change, Pemulwuy, Bungaree and May Gibbs. Each new ferry has a capacity for 400 passengers and a range of new features including increased accessibility for the less mobile and young families, 12 spaces for wheelchairs, bicycle and luggage storage and Wi-Fi access.

The APP Group provided Commercial Management services, acting as the Commercial Director and leading the Transport for NSW commercial and procurement teams.
