Sydney Olympic Games 2000
The APP Group was employed by the Olympic Co-Ordination Authority as project managers for the temporary infrastructure required in one of the main common areas of Sydney Olympic Park and the Olympic Look campaign throughout the east and city areas of Sydney. Our team managed the design and construction and was the site manager of temporary catering, merchandising, sponsor and logistical facilities in the Showground Markets at Homebush Bay for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The facilities included:
- 22 Catering outlets
- The Olympic Merchandising Superstore
- Hordern Lawn Beer Garden
- Temporary Medical Centre and Police Station
- 22 Temporary Toilet Blocks
The project involved the conversion of existing pavilions into catering and merchandising outlets for the general public. Considerable attention to Health and Food Safety Guidelines was required in the design and construction phases in order to deliver catering facilities that were both temporary in nature and compliant with all relevant codes. A number of the facilities required conversion to alternative uses during the changeover from Olympic to Paralympics.
The Olympic Banner Programme was a key element of the Olympic Look Programme. It was designed to create an integrated background to the Sydney 2000 Games. As project manager, The APP Group undertook a detailed survey to identify locations for the Look Programme and coordinated the relevant authorities to ensure success. The APP Group prepared computer generated documentation including maps and schedules necessary for the complex installation process. We were required to oversee the delivery and installation of almost 4000 banners throughout the east and city areas of Sydney. The banners were placed from late August to early November 2000, covering the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
