Western Sydney Parklands

Transforming Western Sydney Parklands through award-winning open space projects.

The Western Sydney Parklands covers 5,280 hectares over 27 kilometres and three local government areas and is affectionately called “Sydney’s biggest backyard”. The parklands serve nearly two million people who live nearby and include BBQ and picnic facilities, playgrounds, cafes, markets, world-class sporting facilities and major attractions including Raging Waters Sydney and Sydney Zoo.

Based on previous work with the Western Sydney Parklands Trust (WSPT), The APP Group was engaged to deliver precinct master planning and a five-year capital works program for the parklands. Our team was embedded in the WSPT office and offered expertise and best practice advice in open space projects.

Projects included the award-winning Plan of Management, entry precinct and Stage 4 works at Bungarribee, Northern Tracks works and management of the Southern Parklands masterplan and Shale Hills Dog Park. Altogether these form more than 245ha of current and defined future open space projects for the parklands.

The Western Sydney Parklands Trust, The APP Group (as client representative) and Tyrell Studio were awarded the NSW and the National Award of Excellence for the Southern Parklands Framework and the NSW and National Award of Excellence for the Western Sydney Parklands 2030 Plan of Management at the 2019 AILA Awards.

The APP Group has been involved with the Trusts on a really broad range of projects, from our Plan of Management at Western Sydney Parklands through to places like Parramatta Park. I’ve got great confidence in their ability to consider the way we as a public entity have to take care of public money, procure sub consultants and the values that we as a public agency need to project.
