Providing essential aged care services in regional NSW.
To meet the growing care needs of the community, Kiama Municipal Council required a new aged care facility that could provide the full spectrum of care. The Kiama Aged Care Centre of Excellence – Blue Haven Bonaira was developed to provide “ageing-in-place” services that keep residents in close connection to the community no matter the level of care they require.
Kiama Municipal Council identified a former hospital site for the development. Existing buildings needed to be demolished and contaminated land capped before construction could begin. A central feature of the project was the restoration of an original 1857 homestead, Barroul House, which would become a central architectural feature of the centre.
The APP Group was engaged to provide project management services for the project from the strategy development phase through to transition. The role covered the development of the delivery strategy, preparing cost plans, and undertaking detailed designs.
The centre offers multi-stage care across:
- 59 independent living units
- 134 beds in the aged care facility, including 31 dementia specific
- Communal areas including wellness centre, chapel, hairdresser and café
