Forensic Pathology & Coroners court

Forensic Medicine and Coroner’s Court Complex

Expanding and modernising Australia's largest forensic medicine facility and coroner's court.

The Forensic Medicine and Coroner’s Court is the largest forensic medicine facility and coroner's court in Australia, with services specialising in investigating cause of death in defined circumstances. Originally located in Glebe for over 50 years, the services provided by the Court had outgrown the building and a larger building with a more sophisticated and sensitive design was needed.

As the current Forensic and Analytical Science Service (FASS) is located in Lidcombe, the new facility was built in proximity to a greenfield site on the same block. The new three-storey building has been designed to create a calm environment, with quiet courtyards for individuals to reflect on dealing with unexpected loss. A specially designed examination and viewing facilities also allow privacy for families dealing with the deceased.

The APP Group was engaged to provide Development Management services for this project. The facility also features four state-of-the-art courtrooms to host large inquests and cases, private viewing and counselling rooms, advanced additional clinical equipment and expanded clinical facilities, and multi-purpose rooms with modern technology for the witnesses, general public and the media.
