Mount Ousley Interchange

Certifying one of regional NSW’s busiest intersections to provide greater connectivity, safety, and efficiency.

The M1 Princes Motorway at the base of Mount Ousley to Wollongong’s north is an established link between the Illawarra and Sydney, predominantly used by freight to deliver to all interstate destinations. However, there is an over reliance on these main roads frequently leading to long queues and delays during peak periods. Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has invested in replacing the existing interchange to allow for greater connectivity, improved road safety and efficiency for those travelling through the gateway to Wollongong.

The Mount Ousley interchange project consists of constructing three new bridges, a dedicated heavy vehicle only bypass lane, two new heavy vehicle safety ramps, upgrading and widening the existing pedestrian bridge and a new commuter car park.

The APP Group has been engaged by Arcadis to assist with delivery of Independent Certification services for the Mount Ousley interchange project. Fulton Hogan has been engaged to design and construct the interchange.

Our teams have begun delivering system setups, resource mobilisation, inducting design reviewers, compiling and issuing various Independent Certifier Management Plans, financial forecasting and planning, and review of D&C’s design packages and project plans.

This investment will allow for reduced travel times, improve vehicle safety at the Wollongong exit/entrance and the University of Wollongong entry, and accommodate for efficient movement from future traffic and freight growth.

Detail design work has commenced, and construction will begin later in 2024.
