Providing critical infrastructure for NSW’s next generation of intercity trains.
To support the introduction of the new Mariyung intercity trains, Transport for NSW needed to build a new train maintenance facility at Kangy Angy on the Central Coast of NSW. Intercity trains make almost 45 million passenger journeys each year and connect Sydney with the Central Coast and Newcastle, the Blue Mountains and the South Coast of NSW.
The new fleet of 610 Mariyung trains and carriages will provide passengers with wider and more spacious seating, armrests, tray tables and high seat backs. The carriages also include charging ports for mobile devices and dedicated space for luggage, prams and bicycles. There are dedicated spaces for wheelchairs and accessible toilets onboard, and each carriage has improved heating and air conditioning.
The APP Group was appointed by Transport for NSW to act as Project Director responsible for the overall management of the project. Responsibilities included establishing an integrated project team, conducting the market sounding, developing and delivering the procurement strategy, and managing the governance process for the internal and external approvals of the project.
The APP Group delivered rail engineering support for the construction of the Kangy Angy maintenance facility. This included the role of Deputy Director of Infrastructure Delivery, guiding the delivery of network wide modifications and upgrades to infrastructure.
