Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport

As Australia’s biggest public transport project, the Sydney Metro will significantly change how people move around Sydney. The Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport line is a new 23km metro line that will run from St Marys to Bringelly, the future home of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.  

The Western Sydney Aerotropolis is planned as a future economic hub for industries ranging from aerospace and defence, manufacturing, healthcare, freight and logistics, agribusiness, education and research. All facilities will be centred around Sydney’s second international airport, the Nancy-Bird Walton Airport. 

The Western Sydney Airport metro line includes 10.4km of twin Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) tunnels in two sections and will include two new stations within the airport site. The new “turn-up-and-go” metro services are fast, reliable and Australia’s only fully accessible and driverless train service. The line will connect travellers to and from Western Sydney International Airport with Sydney’s existing public transport system. 

The APP Group provided Transaction Management services for the Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport project, acting as the Commercial Director for major procurement processes. The project team delivered Strategic Advisory services including industry engagement, project delivery strategy, transaction documentation, procurement management and transaction process management. We guided the client team through tender evaluation, contract negotiation, approvals management, specialist resources and design of payment.

Furthermore, The APP Group, in partnership with HKA and SNC-Lavalin, was engaged in 2021 to provide Integration & Delivery Partner services for the Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport project. As Integrated Delivery Partner, our people are supporting project integration and delivery of multiple mandates for the driverless railway, which includes six new stations linking residential areas with job hubs.
