Creating a landmark $95 million education campus in the heart of Newcastle.
The University of Newcastle was looking to establish a campus in the heart of Newcastle. NUspace, its flagship city campus building, would include the latest technology and innovation in learning as well as deliver a world-class student experience. In 2023, the University is ranked in the Top 200 universities in the world.
NUspace is the first building that forms part of the City Campus precinct of the University of Newcastle and houses its Business and Law schools across 10,000sqm. On the first three levels of the building, standard lecture theatres have been replaced with flexible working spaces and booth seating. The levels above this feature smaller teaching spaces and staff areas. Social spaces and other facilities to engage with industries, businesses and the community are scattered throughout the building.
In 2013, The APP Group was appointed as Project Manager for the delivery of NUspace, the landmark city campus building for the University. On completion in 2017, the building was awarded 5 green stars for its sustainable design, which focuses on minimising energy consumption, promoting natural ventilation and light, and reusing rainwater for toilet flushing and landscape irrigation.
The APP Group has a long history of working with the University of Newcastle delivering the Q Building at Honeysuckle as well as several projects for research entities including the National Institute of Energy and Resources and Hunter Medical Research Institute.
