Large scale installation of rooftop solar to support ALDI’s sustainability initiatives.
To support the energy usage of ALDI’s distribution centre at Brendale, located just north of Brisbane, a large scale 1MW solar system has been installed on its rooftop. The APP Group was chosen to facilitate the design and construction of the installation for ALDI.
At the time of construction, it was one of the largest solar systems in Australia that was installed on a single roof. Around 3,400 solar panels were installed, taking up just 10% of the total roof space providing an abundance of renewable energy for the 17-hectare site. Our team was able to increase the rate of installation from 160 to 330 panels per day as the project progressed.
The Brendale Distribution Centre was previously awarded a 4 star As-built Green Star rating under the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) Industrial V1 tool for its sustainability initiatives. These included removing all synthetic refrigerants from the site, plate heat exchange to condition offices, dimmable lighting systems for the main warehouse areas, water efficient truck washing systems and minimisation of PVC and volatile organic compounds during construction.
The solar system can generate energy to power more than 270 homes in Queensland for a year, the same net benefit of planting 30,000 trees for carbon offset.
