Setting a new benchmark for sporting facilities in Australia.
NSW Rugby League had a vision to take their culture of best practice to another level. In 2015 plans were made to develop a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence for the Blues State of Origin team and their representative teams. As its new headquarters, NSW Rugby League set out to make its Centre of Excellence the benchmark for sporting facilities that can deliver a high-performance pathway to prepare players for the game’s ultimate event — State of Origin.
The 3,100m2 site supports senior football, junior football, Indigenous programs, and women’s rugby league, and includes a full-sized playing and training field adjacent to the building. A tunnel links the Centre to ANZ Stadium for players to use exclusively on game night, and includes an open plan gymnasium, change rooms, medical facilities, and hospitality spaces.
The APP Group was appointed to project manage the NSW Rugby League Centre of Excellence project from the early concept stage through to delivery. The project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule, with the Centre home to the Country Rugby League, Men of League Foundation, KARI Foundation and the University of New England.
