Delivering a new logistics base to service the Ichthys LNG Project.
Toll Property, part of the TOLL Group, required a new logistics supply base to service the Ichthys gas field, approximately 800km off coastal Broome, in Western Australia. The APP Group was appointed as project manager and superintendent for this new development, to be serviced through East Arm Wharf in Darwin. The design comprised a 7000m2 warehouse, a 100m2 cool room and 120m2 of internal warehouse offices, as well as front offices, meeting rooms and a staff canteen. The complex also included a 1,000m2 Dangerous Goods building and 23,000m2 of hard stand.
This project had several stakeholders. The client was Toll Property, their client was Toll Energy and the tenant INPEX was also a key influence in the design process. This meant The APP Group needed to deftly manage all stakeholders, including a design team based in Western Australia and the contractor and consultants situated in South Australia.
The project was delivered on a design and construct delivery model, ahead of programme and under budget, with practical completion awarded in December 2014. This was achieved by introducing multiple forward works packages and building permit applications which ensured work continued prior to the completion of the final design.
